January extra blog post

This month, I haven't been going to my mentorship, but sadly, when I went, my mentor told me she moved to the morning half of the class. She introduced me to the new teachers, Miss Lucy and Miss Cathy. Since they were still getting used to the new schedule, they asked me what the kids usually did with Miss Jenny. I explained to them what we usually do and helped them learn the students' names.

Since I don't have any pictures from mentorship this month, I'll just show you pictures of some of the books I thought were useful for my Lesson 2 presentation.

This book helped me with my research and presentation because it gave me some ideas for my answer. It suggested more strategies on what to do to promote a preschool students' social-emotional development such as expanding their vocabulary with a word chart.

Also, it explained why time outs should not be given to preschoolers.

This book helped me think of my second answer. In the 2 chapters I read in this book for research, it talked about the kinds of play young children go through and how it helps them promote their social-emotional development.

Blog 13: Lesson 2 Reflection

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?
I'm proud that I was able to go up to present and present my information the best I can because I did something. I believe I got a somewhat good grade.
2. a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

         AP

     b.     Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.
I think I deserve an AP because I forgot to present at least one printed research source and I didn't get a lot of student engagement. I also feel that I didn't go really in depth with how I came to my answer.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?
What worked for me in my lesson 2 was making use of my props and sorta engaging the class with my lesson.

4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?
Presenting my information didn't work well. If I had a time machine, I would want to make sure I slow myself down, watch my "um"s and "uh"s, and take a breather. I would make sure I get myself relaxed. I would also get treats for the class to motivate them to participate in my hook and activity.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?
I think my answer #2 would be "To have the students' engage in play". One of my sources, "Heidemann, Sandra, and Debbie Hewitt. "Props and Peers: Learning the Basics of Play." Play: The Pathway from Theory to Practice", talks about how during play, children could observe and empathize playmates. Also, they could learn how to regulate their responses during play.

Blog 12: Mentorship 10 Hours

1.   Where are you doing your mentorship?
At the Main Y at 1331 River Rd, Corona, CA 92880.
2.   Who is your contact?
My contact is Miss Jenny, who is my mentor or Miss Therese Marquez, who is the volunteer coordinator of the Corona-Norco YMCA.
3.   How many total hours have you done (total hours should be reflected in your mentorship log located on the right hand side of your blog like your WB)?
About 84 hours total. I did about 20 hours over the summer.
4.   Summarize the 10 hours of service you did.
Over summer, I went over ten hours. Each day was pretty much the same.
I helped put the children to sleep for naptime and then help prepare the afternoon activities. After that, we wake up the kids then put their mats away. We have them wash their hands for snack time and serve them. Sometimes we have them serve themselves. Then we have circle time. After circle time, we either have them practice tracing their name, or we immediately go on to projects. Then as the kids left, depending on the days, we would go back outside to play.

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

Blog 11: Holiday Project Update

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you do over the break with your senior project?
Over break, I went to my mentorship twice and served a total of 12 hours. I also checked out some research check books at the library.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did, and why?  What was the source of what you learned?
The most important thing I learned from what I did over break was what to with your class during an earthquake or fire. Since my mentor suddenly rang a bell, signaling the kids there was an earthquake/fire drill, she reminded them what to do and we lined them up to head outside. While my mentor rounded up the kids, I got the emergency bin and dragged it to the Then when we were far from the building, we did a roll call.

3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

Because I already interviewed my mentor twice, I would probably ask her old assistant Miss Liz because she recommended her.

December extra blog post

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
At the Y, the main theme of the month for the activities were Christmas.
The kids made lights that had their names in it and decorated it.
This was he activity I suggested for the kids. Toilet paper snowmen.
